La Modernista, the second jewel of the Caran d’Ache Private Collection Series, is being launched in 1995 with a
limited edition of 1888 pieces. 1888 is a symbolic date in the history of Modernism (Barcelona World Fair EXPO).
La Modernista is unique in every aspect from conception to production. Renowed silversmiths, jewellers, enamel and glass artists have combined their craftsmanship with the technical
savoir-faire
of CdA to produce this truly exceptional masterpiece.
Miguel Cunill, specialized silversmith since 1916, developed the intricate hand-finished engravings on the pen body and co-ordinated the complex, ancestral techniques of applying translucent enamel to 925 sterling silver. The startling blue motif is obtained by depositing multicoloured enamel powders on the silver surface.
The enamel is then fired several times per side at temperatures reaching 830°C. Finally, the enamelled surface is carefully polished. The resulting object unites the purity of silver and the brillance of translucent enamel. Soler Cabot, Catalan jeweller of long-standing tradition, designed the iconic shell-shaped clip which recalls the shape of the inkwell.
Bold and oversized (156 mm capped) design embodying spirit of modernism. Rhodium-plated 925 silver, hand-applied enamel mosaic. 18K 750 Medium (M) gold nib, has never been inked. Cartridge or converter filling. Caran d’Ache converter is included.
The pen comes in near mint and unused condition together with original boxes and papers and namely: outer box, lacquered wood display box, inkwell, booklet, directions for use, pillow.
